Passion for movement in nature, hiking, mountaineering and at the same time respect for mountains and tradition, led the founder Frederic Sordini to start making socks from natural materials, which are technically perfect and created in the local environment, respecting ethical principles.

The ELBEC brand was born in the heart of the Dolomites, in Val Pettorini, below the peaks of Marmolada.

Friderico lived with his family in Africa, Central America and several other parts of the world. When he returned to Italy, he founded the Val Pettorina Agricultural Association in the Dolomites. The association deals with the promotion and renewal of agriculture in the mountains, in a sustainable, organic way. It takes care of the protection of mountain habitats.

The Elbec brand was born in 2015 out of concern for the environment and sustainable development of mountain habitats.

Brand Elbec

The Elbec brand presents socks and hats made of merino wool. They produce products that mainly differ in the quality of materials and care for the environment at all stages of production. The production is entirely Italian (Made in Italy) because they believe that it is still possible to create a product of Italian production

Merino wool Elbec is certified as "NO MULESING"! This is a procedure developed by John WH Mules. The process of fighting parasites. Sheep are forced to “bath” in a chemical solution of insecticides and fungicides, often with their heads under water, which is all a very difficult temptation for sheep. Some use chemicals that are also very toxic to humans. Residues of toxic substances are then found in merino wool yarn and can enter the human body, causing skin health problems and allergies. Even for workers who bathe sheep, this poses a serious health risk.

This parasite control procedure is banned in Europe, but not in Australia and New Zealand, where 90% of merino yarn originates.

Elbec merino yarn comes from animals that are treated nicely, without aggressive shearing, mutilation. They do not use pesticides or other harmful substances in cultivation or production. Merino yarn is obtained from small farms in the Dolomites at an altitude of 1500 m or more - thus avoiding that merino sheep have harmful parasites, and thus no activity is required to control them.

Merino wool - NATURE line

In addition to the NATURE line made of certified NO MULESING merino wool, Elbec uses yarn that is even more suitable for the health of users, and even cleaner for the environment. It is a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified yarn, defined as bio-organic yarn that comes from organic farms, where they use their own food to feed the animals and do not use any type of pesticide on the animals. Merino yarn from the NATURE line is made without the use of chlorine during yarn processing, which makes it an ideal choice for everyone who cares about their health, but also the health of the environment.

The NATURE line has a high proportion of merino wool (about 90%) and the socks in this line are especially soft and comfortable.

Merino wool - TECH line

The TECH line contains about 50% merino wool. Socks from the TECH line offer all the technical properties of merino wool, but at the same time, due to the addition of other fibers, the socks are more elastic, fit the foot better and are more suitable for intense sports activities.

Both lines are great for spending free time in nature, in nice weather or in demanding weather conditions. Merino wool in the cold provides super warmth and thermoregulation during hiking, as well as during physical activities or only at leisurely moments in nature. It cools us pleasantly in summer.

The merino yarn used by Elbec has 16 micron wool fibers, which means it is very comfortable and soft to the touch, not as “scratchy” as wool can be. It is breathable and absorbs (it can absorb 33% of the moisture of its weight without feeling the moisture to the touch).

Unlike synthetic fibers, merino yarn is a living fiber that responds to changes in body temperature. This allows the user to maintain an ideal microclimate: it warms it in winter and cools it in summer. Due to the elasticity of merino fibers, merino wool clothing "enjoys" movement. Upon completion of the activity, they always return to their original form.
