ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene)

Is the material of the outer, hard shell of the helmet. It makes the helmet durable and also helps absorb shocks a bit.

EPS foam: expanded polystyrene

Is a slightly harder foam usually on top of a helmet. Ensures shock absorption. Usually, when the helmet gets hit harder, the foam "disintegrates", which is not necessarily visually visible. But due to damage of this foam, the helmet is unable to absorb the impact the next time. Therefore, in case of a stronger impact, you must replace the helmet with a new one.
